For our global economy topic in A level geography I am using the economic growth of India as a case study.  I would be really grateful if geography or economics teachers, or anyone else could ask their students to answer the following questions so my students can use them.  As it is A level (17 year olds), it would be great if this could be at quite a high level.

We are looking at:

- Why is India’s economy growing so quickly?

- What is the role of foreign multinational corporations and foreign direct investment?

- What are the key growth industries and why?

- What is the overall impact on the country?

- To what extent is it addressing poverty issues in the country?  Is the wealth being evenly distributed?

- What is the impact of this growth on the environment?

- What is the impact on culture and ways of life?

- some people in the UK believe that the growth of India is coming partly from low wages, long hours and sweat shop conditions.  Is there any truth in this?

Thank you very much

Gyan Bharati school has sent us a very extensive reply to these questions, written by a year 12 student. AT fortismere we have used this response to deepen our students’ understanding of India’s economy. If anyone from other schools would like to use this response please respond here.
